David Hirst

Organist

David Hirst is one of the few British organists to have fully integrated into the French organ world.  He is titular organist of the magnificent 12th-century Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame in Mantes-la-Jolie near Paris and Artistic Director of the city’s International Organ Festival.  As a recitalist he performs regularly across the world and has recorded and broadcast extensively.

‘Mind-blowing performances…from tremendous power to the utmost delicacy…’

‘Impressive technique, but always at the service of the music…’

‘Mr Hirst is a master of registration.  He combines seamless dynamic control with exquisite musical colour…’

‘David combines a deep knowledge of the instrument with the ability to communicate through compelling performances and fascinating commentaries.’

Latest Release

David has released a new CD of the two organs of Notre-Dame in Mantes-la-Jolie with the Priory label.  The recording features both instruments played simultaneously for the first time on CD.  A popular programme contrasts the rich symphonic colours of the 1897 Merklin grand orgue with the clarity and presence of the 2013 Cogez organ.  The sumptuous booklet in English and French includes photos of the stunning edifice.
